1.0 Programme name and Duration

The Programme name is Bachelor of Business Administration and Management Studies. The minimum duration for this program shall be three (3) years. The course is designated to be taken over a minimum period of six semesters. The duration of a Semester is seventeen (17) weeks. There shall be university examinations to be conducted in the last two weeks of each semester.

2.0 Programme Rationale

World economies are experiencing rapid expansion in small, medium and large scale investments/ this calls for highly trained and disciplined professionals in the area of business management to provide the necessary skills needed to give direction for this development. As the world economy grows, the demand for ethical, empowered and employable accountants, financial analysts, investment advisors, marketing specialists, operations managers, human resource managers etc becomes critical.

Today's challenging business environment has led to poor business administration and management as one of the major causes of corporate collapse in the East African region and indeed across the world. The Degree in Business Administration is intended to prepare learners for leadership and management roles in today’s highly competitive business environment who will guard against business failures and therefore, foster economic growth. The purpose of this programme is to offer a range of modern skills intended to assist the learner to nurture the business to success. It is particularly suited to persons who wish to train as entrepreneurs or those intending to be employed in management.

3.0 Programme Objectives

By the end of the programme learners will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge and skills in the principles of economic theory in relation to business activity and an understanding of the environment in which all businesses operate.
  2. Exhibit a clear understanding of the legal ways in which different businesses are formed and the manner in which they are structured and organized.
  3. Appreciate the different business departments and the interrelatedness of their activities and functions.
  4. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding about the ways in which different businesses are financed, including practical bookkeeping and accounting skills.
  5. Appreciate the importance of people in organizations including the need for motivation, control and communication.

4.0 Programme Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this programme, students will be able to:-

(a)  Connect business management decisions and political, social,economic, legal, ethical, technological and environmental factors.

(b)  Apply the business knowledge and skills acquired to serve the communities professionally oriented, comprehensive, relevant to today’s business world and of high standard.

(c)  Critically evaluate business processes in order to determine the level of efficiency and effectiveness.

 Identify management and organizational problems, isolate critical factors, generate feasible alternatives and after critical thinking and analysis, come up with the most appropriate and ethical solutions.
