1.0    Introduction /Preamble:

The Institute of Industrial Art and Design shall endeavour to provide a three-year fulltime Bachelor of Industrial Art and Design (BIAD) degree programme that targets to develop Historical, Cultural, and Industrial knowledge and information of the Arts/Design for its students.  

Through the phases of the yearly Art Exhibitions held in St. Lawrence University, the Institute of Industrial Art and Design (IIAD) has sensitized the University and the public at large of the significance of the Industrial Art and Design.

2.0    Rational /Justification:           

To make a living through the designs and other related art products is central to the BIAD degree programme.  The task of the artist/designer is to commemorate visual knowledge through a variety of media, equipments and other traditional methods of creating art and design.

Throughout the ages, human activities has developed and progressed in many disciplines and one of the oldest has been the creation of utilitarian products through the use of the hand. This practical skill is very important especially in the field of knowledge and industrial studies in Studio Art, Industrial Design, Gallery and Museum management. Through regular supervision and evaluation of the works produced, it will contribute to the student’s overall artistic knowledge and development. 

3.0    Programme Objective:

•      Emphasis would be placed on improvement of the quality of the Industrial Art and Design productions.

•      Use of creative strategies to address the current social and cultural needs of the community.

•      Create employment opportunities for oneself and the public at large.

•      Hold study trips and field attachments (industrial training) in order for the students to practice hands on.

•      Plan for community outreach programmes which will offer relevant knowledge for them to find market for their products

•      Ability to create individual Art Portfolios, and be able to mount Art Exhibitions and professionally price the art works

 

4.0    Programme Learning Outcomes:

         By the end of the programme, the students should be able to:-

•      Apply the practical knowledge and skills acquired from the Art Studios to improve on the quality of Industrial Art and Design production.

•      Use of creative strategies to address the current social and cultural needs of the community.

•      Create employment opportunities for oneself and the public at large.

•      Having gone through industrial training, the artworks produced by the artists would be quite enlightening and engaging to the community.

•      Plan for community outreach programmes which will offer relevant knowledge for them to find market for their products.

•      Create his/her own Art Portfolio, and be able to mount Art Exhibitions and professionally price the art works; hence create his/her own job and be useful to the community
