Program Name and Duration

The programme name is: Foundation Certificate

The Duration of the Foundation Certificate is one academic year distributed into two semesters and each semester comprises of 17 weeks of which the last two are reserved for examinations.

 Program Description

The St. Lawrence University Uganda Foundation program provides learners with the basic introductory knowledge, cognitive and conceptual tools and practical techniques for further higher education studies in their chosen field of study. The Foundation Certificate (FC) is specifically designed for international students who do not hold an equivalent of A’ level qualification which is a requirement for direct entry to a Degree or Diploma Program in Uganda. The program lasts for 2 semesters and is carefully formulated between the support skills needed for academic life and academic subjects needed to sustain university studies. The mix of courses offered in the program will set students to a path of achieving their goals of obtaining university education. The students are provided with both technical and social skills that will enable them effectively embark on university education from a country that they are not very familiar with.

Program Rationale

The Foundation Program appreciates inclusiveness since the world is now a global village hence the need to make provisions for incorporating international students despite the differences in nations’ educational structures and systems. Technology has brought people closer and sharing of knowledge has become easier. In this regard there are no longer reasons why diverse academic backgrounds should deter a student from joining a University of his/her choice. This program bridges the gap by equipping the students with basic knowledge and skills to access University education.

This program is also intended to serve as a foundation certificate for students whose foreign secondary school qualifications are not considered equivalent to UACE but permit admission into Higher Education in the foreign countries.
